El Águila, dicen que es el ave que vive mas largo tiempo. Algunas especies pueden durar hasta 70 años. Pero al llegar a los 40, su pico se curva, sus alas envejecen y se vuelven pesadas; sus plumas se tornan gruesas y sus garras se debilitan. Por esto se le hace difícil volar y cazar las presas de la que se alimenta. Entonces se enfrenta a la posibilidad de morir.
Pero algunos ejemplares se niegan a aceptar su destino y vuelan hacia lo alto de la montaña a buscar el nido en algún sitio solitario. Allí rompen su pico contra las rocas para renovarlo. Luego de esperar el nacimiento de uno nuevo, semanas mas tarde quitan una a una sus garras. Cuando estas vuelven a nacer, el águila se dedica a arrancar sus plumas viejas. Después de cinco meses. el animal, completamente renovado, sale a volar de nuevo y puede vivir 30 años mas.
